Assessments

Overview​

Assessments is the staff list for creating and assigning quizzes and tests. You can add math equations and diagrams on Create Assessment.

Who can use it​

Instructors and admins who create assessments.

Courses or classes exist if you need to assign.

How to use it​

Create, tag, and assign​

  1. Open Assessments → Create Assessment.
  2. Add questions. Tag skills or standards when you want reports to group by them.
  3. Set attempts, availability, and purpose (use a placement quiz when you need screening).
  4. Open Assign; choose courses or classes; publish.
  5. Question banks: manage them from a course lesson quiz, or Save to question bank on a Journey exit ticket.

Add math equations and diagrams​

  1. On Create Assessment, type math in the question or an option using $inline$ or $$display$$. A Preview shows the typeset equation before you save.
  2. Classroom examples: Simplify: $$2^3 × 2^{-5}$$ and option $$\frac{1}{4}$$. You can type ×; it displays as a multiplication sign.
  3. Click Insert equation to wrap selected text in $$…$$, or place empty delimiters and type inside them.
  4. Click Add media to upload a diagram (kite, trapezoid, number line). The image appears under the question in Preview and when students take the quiz.
  5. Mark the correct option using the exact text you typed (including any $$…$$). Auto-grading matches that text, not the pretty preview.

Tips​

  • Grade open responses in Grading.
  • In math mode use \frac{a}{b}, ^{ }, and _{ } for fractions, exponents, and subscripts. × and ÷ are accepted.

If you get stuck​

  • “No assessments found” — create the first one.
  • Cannot assign — create a course or class first.
  • Placement quiz stuck for learners — confirm Placement on My Sections.
  • Equation stays as raw $$…$$ — check matching dollar signs. Preview updates as you type.
  • Diagram does not appear — use Add media (JPEG, PNG, WebP, or GIF). External image links are blocked.
